XD AI Notes is a local-first iOS note-taking tool: photograph or import an image, have it broken down step by step, and keep the result in a searchable knowledge base. Check the FAQ below, or email us if you run into a problem.

Open “Settings → AI Providers → Manage Providers”, choose the provider you want to use, enter the API Key issued by that provider, and save. Tapping a provider that is not configured yet opens its setup page automatically; tapping the currently active provider again lets you edit it. The API Key is encrypted in the iOS Keychain on your device and is never uploaded to our servers. The app is free to download; AI usage is billed directly by the provider you choose, at their rates.
Nine official providers are built in: DeepSeek, Zhipu GLM, Qwen, Tencent Hunyuan, Kimi Open Platform, Kimi Code, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google Gemini. Choosing a provider uses its official endpoint — there is no endpoint to fill in by hand — and DeepSeek is the default. The model name can be swapped for another model ID in the same family on the configuration page. Note: Kimi Code uses the dedicated key from a Kimi membership plan and is not interchangeable with a Kimi Open Platform API Key.
Each folder has its own analysis steps and tag set. Go to “Settings → Folders”, tap a folder to rename it, add or edit analysis steps (each step has an editable title and prompt), and manage its tags; tap “+” to create a new folder. Pick the folder when you analyze a photo and the AI output follows that folder's steps.
All notes, images, and analysis results are stored locally on your device; we never upload your data to any server we control. When you run an AI analysis, the problem image is compressed and sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to the provider you chose so it can generate the analysis — it is not sent anywhere else. If you have iCloud backup enabled, your data is included in your device backup, which is governed by Apple's terms of service.
When you delete a note it moves to Trash (Settings → Trash), where you can restore it, delete it permanently, or empty the whole trash at once. Deleting a folder permanently deletes every note inside it and cannot be undone; “All Folders” is the built-in default folder and cannot be deleted. Uninstalling the app removes all local data on the device.
Export and batch export are not supported yet — notes and images live only on your device. If you need an export, email us with your use case and we will consider it for a future version.
Recognition accuracy depends on photo quality and the capabilities of the provider you choose. Suggestions: 1) make sure there is plenty of light and the content is clear and complete; 2) keep the camera parallel to the material to avoid tilt and perspective distortion; 3) switch to a stronger provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google Gemini) under “Settings → AI Providers”.
